Before and After School Childcare

Hello parents! 👋 ☺️ My name is Melissa and I run a private Before and After school dayhome in Reunion/Williamstown. I am originally from Winnipeg and have lived in Alberta for over 15 years. I’ve been married for over 15 years and we have two very active boys. We are a big sports family. I have been running my dayhome for eight amazing years. 🌈 Prior to running a dayhome, I gave up a 13 year career working with at-risk children and youth and their families to spend more time with my boys and I have been absolutely loving what I do! I have dedicated two levels of my house to my dayhome and my backyard faces the school field so not only do we have a nice big area to run and play games, I’m also steps away from the school. 😁 I offer services to older children which has allowed me the freedom to interact and play games with all the kids. I’m typically open from 7:00-5:00pm. I have extended hours on occasion with a higher fee. My holidays are already pre-determined so parents know well in advance and they seem to love and appreciate it. I take my holidays the same time as Herons Crossing School. This is typically during Christmas break, Teachers week,Spring break, long weekends and summer. I do not charge in the summer when kids aren’t in my care. This schedule allows parents well in advance to schedule the off time accordingly. I am OPEN on PD days. My before and after program includes transportation to and from school at Herons Crossing (in all weather conditions), daily entertainment, special treats on special days such as birthdays or holidays, daily games and interactions. There is a bus stop right infront of Herons Crossing where Iam able to meet my other little friends at that attend a different school. 👍🏻 🚍 Before school is a time for us all to check in, play a few quiet games and get ready to have a great day. Some parents drop off their child with breakfast if they were in a rush which I am more than happy to help serve. After school is time for games, activities and to connect with all our dayhome friends building strong friendships and social skills. My main floor is dedicated to fine motor skills and a more relaxing environment while my fully developed basement is dedicated to gross motor skills where we run around, play games, use the mini trampoline and so much more...😊 I typically have games or crafts or baking (scheduled on different days) for after school but kids are not forced to participate, just encouraged. I do minimal screen time and usually save it for a movie and popcorn on a Friday. I own a very friendly old cat named, Stormi and the kids adore playing with him. 🐈 Aside from what I listed I'm also a mom who gets and understands the need for important, experienced and trust worthy child care. Qualifications: - 8th year running a day home - Worked with Children and Youth for 13 years with a large organization in Calgary. - Formerly a Coordinator (for 10 years) of a group home in Calgary working with many mental health diagnosis and behaviourally challenged children and youth. - Worked with Child and Family Services - Educated in Attachment and Trauma - Background in Child Psychology as well as Counselling - Cleared police check with vulnerable sector as well as CFS clearance - CPR certified ( will be re-certified this year) - My speciality is working with the Social, Physical, Emotional, Cognitive, Attachment and Literacy competencies of the whole brain child, as well as Sensory development. - I am friendly and outgoing - I like to bake, play outside, go on special outings, garden (each child grew their own plants last year), challenge minds, do crafts and so much more!!! -I am an active participant with the kids and not just a supervisor. I like to get my hands dirty too. 😊 -I know the importance of building healthy minds and bodies and ensure all children feel special, loved and cared for. -I celebrate all holidays and create a VERY special day for children on their birthday.
